Activity 1: Representation of States

Here's a link to the worksheet. Fill out the left side before doing the class activity. Complete the right side afterward and compare the difference!

We will look at the different states of matter which consist of Solid, Liquid and Gas and how the particles that make up matter interact with one another to give them their different properties.

In a solid the particles are very close together and hold each other very tightly.

In a liquid the particles are close, but not held tightly together and can move around more freely.

In a gas the particles are not close together and have more freedom to move around wherever they please.

You as a class will act as these particles to help you understand what is happening within the different states of matter and then use what you’ve learnt to draw your own model, and explain what you now know about solids, liquids and gases.
